Sherry Diane Smith
September 23, 1946 – March 3, 2026
Sherry Diane Smith, 79, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born on September 23, 1946, Sherry lived a life centered on family, friendship, and genuine connection with others.
She was a graduate of Kimball High School in Dallas and attended East Texas State University as well as El Centro College where she graduated with a degree in paralegal studies. She was always fascinated by politics and the law and in addition to owning her own word processing company she also worked as a court reporter, legal secretary and paralegal.
Sherry was known for her outgoing personality and love of conversation. She had a natural gift for talking with people and could make friends wherever she went. Whether meeting someone for the first time or catching up with longtime friends, Sherry’s warmth and curiosity about others made her a joy to be around.
Sherry enjoyed attending events and gatherings with friends and family and cherished the time spent sharing laughter and stories. She was passionate about politics and current events and never shied away from a lively discussion. She also loved traveling with her family, creating lasting memories on vacations and adventures together.
Family was the center of Sherry’s life. She is survived by her four daughters and their husbands: Stacy and Tony Clark, Linda and Jeff Vining, Elaine and Scott Tidwell, and Sandra and Tim Green.
She was a proud grandmother to David Ellis, Michael Clark, Victor Vining, Alexander Vining, Matthew Tidwell, Morgan Tidwell, D.J. Green, and Daniel Green. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jack Ellis and Tanner Tidwell.
Sherry is also survived by her brothers, Bob Shelby and Gary Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, David H. Smith; her sister, Nancy Brill; and her parents, Loyd and Alta Shelby.
Sherry will be remembered for her lively spirit, her love of conversation, and the way she brought people together. Her presence, laughter, and the many memories she created with those she loved will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Thursday - March 12, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time the Funeral Service will begin with Pastor Larry D. Williams, officiating.
Interment will follow in Wheatland Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
