Shirley Jean Banner, 87, of DeSoto, TX, passed away November 08, 2022. She was a member of the Porter Family - one of the pioneer families of DeSoto. She was a loving, helpful and kind person that was devoted in her faith. Shirley was a faithful member of Cold Springs Church of Christ in Lancaster Texas. A faithful wife, loving mother and the sweetest grandmother (known to all the grandchildren as “Gaga"). She enjoyed being around her church community and loved her job working with her friends at West/Hurtt Funeral Home. She lived in Desoto all of her life and will be incredibly missed by all that knew her. Mrs. Banner was preceded in death by her husband: Phil Banner; son: Gary Pogue; parents: Ira Howell Hood & Lou Gary Porter Hood; brothers: LaFate Hood, Gerald Porter & Gordon Hood and sister: Evelyn Ragland. She is survived by her daughter: Kathy Pogue Gerber; son in law: Fred Gerber; grandchildren: Jody Bullard, Jonathan Gerber, Taylor Pogue, Abby Pogue & Ian Pogue; great grandchildren: Aiden, Brantley, Calvin, Mason, Maddison & Raylynn; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Crescent Regional Hospital and to the many friends that cared for her during her illness, including special caregiver Janis Whitt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Cold Springs Church of Christ, 2710 W. Main St., Lancaster, TX 75146. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Tuesday - November 29, 2022 from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:30 A.M. with Mr. Mark Hancock and Mr. Joe McCall, officiating. Interment will follow in the D/FW National Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
