Shirley Mason Evans, 81, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Lewisville, Texas. Born on June 26, 1944, in Midlothian (Mountain Peak), Texas, Shirley was the daughter of Truett Mason and Maurine (Morris) Mason. In 1947, her family moved to the DeSoto area where she spent most of her childhood. She attended high school in both DeSoto and Houston, graduating in 1963. Later, she pursued further education at El Centro College in Dallas. Shirley dedicated much of her professional life to public service for Dallas County government. Over the years, she held several roles including court clerk in the family courts, clerk for the work release program, and medical transcriptionist for the medical examiner's office. She especially enjoyed her fascinating job as medical transcriptionist. In 1979, Shirley returned with her family from west Texas to DeSoto where her parents and brother still lived and remained there until 2025. She was a kind and decent mother, daughter, and wife qualities that defined her relationships and left a lasting impression on those around her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, William "Bill" L. Evans; her mother Maurine (Morris) Mason; and her father Truett Mason .Shirley is survived by her brother Ralph Mason of Italy TX; three children: Joseph "Joe" Deaver of Little Elm TX, Duane (Kim) Deaver of Carrollton TX, and Rhonda (Randy) Nowlin of Irving TX; as well as three grandchildren: Amanda Allred, Stephen Shaffer, and Lydia Deaver. May Shirley's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM at West-Hurtt Funeral Home 217 S Hampton Rd, DeSoto TX 75115. Visitation is at 11:00am. Shirley will be buried beside husband Bill and among numerous ancestors at Mountain Peak Cemetery near Midlothian TX.
