Steven Alan Robbins, born September 21, 1954, in Dayton Ohio to Charles A. Robbins and Delores M. Robbins.

He had a busy childhood in Dayton with his siblings Dana Robbins Olson and Jeffrey Lee Robbins. June 1968 his mother went to a wrecking yard and talked the owner into selling her an older station wagon & motor both sitting on wheel blocks for $200. He threw in four tires and told her he did not know if the car would make it around the block, much less to Tampa Florida where her parents lived.

Raised by a single parent without child support, Steven worked odd jobs year-round to help support his mother and grandmother. Grandmother Pearl was who he learned to cook from, do his laundry, and read the bible. He cared for his grandmother Pearl for two years until her death in 1997. He would often tell the story of when Pearl would find his grandfather James bottles of hidden whiskey. She would then wait for him in the driveway for him to watch her pour it out.

Working constantly, he was not always available for school. His mother dropped him at the front door, and he would walk out the back door to go fishing for a local seafood diner. Later, he earned his GED through the U.S. Army. He often encouraged younger children to stay in school, reminding them that education was something no one could ever take away.

Steven was a proud Army Veteran. Earning the nickname “Cooke” since he knew how to cook once he entered the army. Enjoying his time in the military and traveling to other countries. Once returning home he worked for a friend’s construction company digging ditches and laying pipes for new construction and decided there was an easier way to make a living.

He was proud to be a Veteran but prouder to have a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) and be an over-the-road driver. Steven never met a stranger. Arriving in the DFW area he met his soulmate Karla and her family. Son Christopher became his on the road team driver for a year before Steven decided to drive local. The sleeper turned into a gourmet kitchen. Steven would be driving and could smell something and the next thing he knew was a plate with a four-inch-thick sandwich would appear through the curtains. Only once did they park on the side of a road to take photos of themselves with snow. Once they posed, they heard a creaking sound and turned around to see their truck starting to slide.

Grandsons Jacob and Alex started calling him “Uncle Steve” after the second time they met him. Probably because he threw them both so high into the swimming pool. Later in 2008 when Hamilton was born, he affectionately started calling him “Steve Steve”. When asked why, because everyone had two names, MeMe, Momma, Daddy, Nanny Gail, Pawpaw, Dee-Dee, Grandad Jim, Grandad Craig, and Jilley. He loved his nicknames and loved all his grandchildren very much.

Steven was a member of the American Legion and SON’s where he served as chaplain. During his time as chaplain, he returned cremains to families from the DFW area to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.

Steven’s September 2016 birthday was incredibly special. We managed to locate his daughter Amanda, who he had not seen since she was an infant. He was surprised he had two more grandchildren, Nevaeh and Wyatt. October 19, 2016, he met Amanda at her home in Pine Mountain Georgia. Yearly trips followed to Georgia over the years but none as special as the October 2018 when he had the pleasure of walking Amanda down the aisle for her wedding to her husband TJ.

After Karla’s health scare August 2021, Karla asked Steven and best-friend Kim Aderholt if they thought they could pull off a wedding by New Years Eve. Plans were in the works for a NYE wedding and within days Steven asked his oldest grandson Jacob to do him the honor of being his best man. While Karla asked “MeMe’s Baby” aka Alex to give her away. The “littles” in League City would not be sitting in the corner. Scarlet Anne wanted to be Steven’s “best woman” “because MeMe we have a special bond and relationship and he is my favorite grandparent and I have a lot of them.” Hamiliton became holder of the rings, Virginia flower girl, and Abigail Maid of Honor.

Like all men, Steven had selective hearing, but he could hear the word “groom” across a crowded room and always turned with his million-dollar smile. He gladly volunteered to deliver needed items to homeless veterans and to support Nancy at Airborne Angel Cadets. Steven will always be remembered for his generosity, kindness, warm smile, and loving hugs.
