Virgil Helm

August 10, 1943 — April 6, 2021

Virgil was born, August 10, 1943 in Gatesville Texas and passed away April 6, 2021.  He was preceded in death by parents Albert and Ella Helm, one Sister, a Brother, and Niece.

Virgil attended and graduated Gatesville, Texas schools. After graduation he attended Tarleton State University for two years.  He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor and Master’s Degree.  He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service during summers and college, and he worked for USDA until retiring in 1997, after that he did consulting work until 2018.  Virgil enjoyed farming and raised cattle as a hobby.  He was a member of Duncanville Church of Christ.  He served on the Parks Board and City Council for two terms.  He felt a great need to give back to our city.

He is survived by Wife: Wanda Helm, Sons: Monte Helm and wife Anna, Darrell Helm and wife Darla, Greg Helm, and wife Amber. Granddaughters: Landry and Lauren Helm,  and step grandchildren in love: Christian, James, James, Amanda, and Jennifer……Several nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law.

Visitation: Friday April 9, 2021 5 p.m. to  7 p.m. at  West Hurtt Funeral home in DeSoto.

A graveside Service with interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Gatesville, Texas.
