Wanda Jean Voorhies

November 2, 1927 — March 14, 2009

born to Carl and Ruby Estelle Tucker Cavender, Wanda was a fourth generation pioneer family of DeSoto. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone from the time she was 16 years old, and blazed many trails for women in management for the company. Wanda also set exemplary standard for employees in her 44 years, including never having taken a sick day during that period of time. Preceded in death by herhusband Dwight Voorhies on August 7, 2004, she is survived by sisters-in-law, Peggy Cavender and Jane Voorhies, nieces, Sue Pillow, Gail Buckner, Carla Jean, Nancy Millsap, Martha Carroll, and Mary Alice Thompson. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at the funeral home, Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Chapel of the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rawlins Cemetery in Lancaster, TX.
