William "Bill" Edward Sligar

William (Bill) Edward Sligar of DeSoto, Texas passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1928 to Egbert and Gladys (Gasaway) Sligar. Bill had been a resident of DeSoto since 1975. He was married for 42 years to Barbara Peavler of West Frankfort, Illinois. She preceded him in death. Bill was an Army veteran of the Korean War. After his military service, he attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois, graduating with a degree in accounting. He worked with the Veterans Administration at numerous locations - Belleville, Illinois, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kansas City, Missouri, and Marion, Illinois, in a variety of financial positions. His final assignment was at the Dallas VA Medical Center where he served as the Chief Financial Officer. Bill was a member of the local Chapter 32 of the Disabled Veterans and a 33⁰ Master Mason affiliated with the Dallas Scottish Rite Temple. Bill is survived by his son, Greg, of Tucson, Arizona and his daughter, Terri, of Whitewater, Wisconsin. He had five grandchildren, Samantha, Melissa, Daniel, Evan, and Jacob, and two great grandsons, Weston, and Jacob. Funeral services, with Rev. Rodney Rhoden officiating, will be held July 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at West-Hurtt Funeral Home in DeSoto. Interment will be at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.
