Willie Lee “Tootsie” Attlesey Willie Lee “Tootsie” Attlesey, born on May 21, 1924, to William and Eddie Lee Jayroe Petree, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 18, 2024. . She grew up in Osage, Texas, alongside her older brother Edwin, in a humble yet warm and loving home. Faith played a central role in Tootsie’s life from an early age. She attended church near her home and was baptized in the creek right in front of it, a moment that marked the beginning of her lifelong devotion to the Lord. After graduating high school, Tootsie moved to Dallas where she began working for a millinery company on South Lamar Street. While living in a boarding house in Oak Cliff, a dear friend introduced her to a musician, Merle “Shelton” Attlesey , who would become the love of her life. They were married on June 28, 1953, and together they welcomed one daughter, Cynthia Ann who brought them so much joy. Tootsie continued working at the millinery company for 10 years until it closed. She then joined Burner and Son Millinery Co., where she worked until the late 70’s. In 1976, Tootsie and Merle moved to Reilly Springs, where they built a home, planted a garden, and created a life surrounded by family, friends and the beauty of the land. When Merle passed away in 1982, Tootsie moved to DeSoto to be closer to her daughter and family. Throughout her life, Tootsie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always present for her family, teaching them how to love, serve, and care for others, which she did with grace and dedication. She was known for her delicious country cooking, her love for fur babies, and her storytelling. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren describe her as their biggest cheerleader throughout their entire lives, always encouraging them and celebrating every achievement, big or small. Earlier this year, Tootsie celebrated her 100th birthday with her family. She shared treasured stories from her past, filling the day with laughter, love and memories that will be cherished forever. Tootsie is survived by her daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Bobby Meek, her grandsons Jason (Keri) Meek and Aaron (Debra) Meek, and her five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Shelby, Hunter, Bobby Joe, and Katie Belle. She is also survived by Charles and Alisa Petree, Carolyn and Don Hartness, numerous beloved nieces and nephews from both the Petree and Attlesey families and cousins from the Jayroe family. Tootsie’s life was a testament to love, family, and faith, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and care that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. A graveside Service and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Reilly Springs Cemetery in Hopkins County near Sulphur Springs, Texas.
